Lash & Brow Care

The eye area is vital to how the world sees us. Click on the following to learn more about each service or read below for a brief summary about procedure processes:

Lash Extensions

Lash extensions give the appearance of longer, fuller lashes. Extensions are applied to each individual natural lash, and a “full set” will take about 2-3 hours, depending on lash density. Our specialty is our Aries lashes, which feature a half strip of extensions focused on the outer corners. This style will last just as long, but cuts service time in half and is more cost-friendly. Aftercare consists of daily washing, and supplies will be provided for you at the end of your appointment. Contrary to popular belief, clients are allowed to wet lashes and use oil-based face products; this will not disturb retention. The only things clients should avoid are lash curlers, mascara, and excessive picking or rubbing. Touch-ups are recommended every 2-3 weeks, and the following “fill” appointment should be much quicker, at only 1-2 hours.

Lash Lift & Brow Lamination

Lash lifts and brow laminations follow a 3-step procedure, much similar to hair perming. Step 1 is a solvent that loosens hair so it may be readjusted to the desired place, such as a curled lash rod for lash lifting or brushed upward for a feathered brow structure. Step 2 locks these hairs into place and ensures the hair will stay put for the next 4-8 weeks. Step 3 is a nourishing cream to moisturize skin and hair. The following step is optional but highly recommended for those with sparse or light hair, adding tint to darken hairs and stain the skin. Aftercare calls for avoiding heat, steam, and oil for the following 48 hours. During this time, hair may still be porous and it is highly recommended to not rub hairs out of place. You will be offered a spoolie to take home to keep hair brushed into place. Touch-ups are recommended every 4-8 weeks, depending on retention.

Brow Cleanup

A brow cleanup typically removes minimal hair, leaving a soft, natural look. We like to remove hair with soft wax and remove it with woven strips. Anyone interested in this type of removal must cease the use of the following at least 10 days prior:

Those on Accutane or similar medications must cease use for a minimum of 1 year before waxing. For anyone who would still like a brow cleanup, tweezing is always an option that will remove hair from the root without causing skin irritation.

We also welcome fun brow modifications such as thinning out the brows or adding slits and colors. Read below for more information about brow colors.

Tinting

Lash and brow tinting is a service that dyes facial hair, typically to darken or color-match hair. It can be used to define brows, and also darken lashes similar to mascara. The tint we use at Unity usually lasts on hair for 4-8 weeks and stains the skin for 7-10 days. As mentioned, color is completely customizable and can be subtle if preferred. For those who have brow modifications such as brow slits, tint can add an extra element of precision and depth to solidify those crispy lines.

Ombre Shading Brows

Permanent Makeup offered at Unity Aesthetics includes Ombre/Powder & Nano brows, lash-enhancing eyeliner, and lip blushing. Click this link for general information on all of these services, or read below for more details.

All permanent makeup clients will have to fill out a brief health questionnaire to ensure the safety of the procedure. You can click here to review the Illinois “What to Know Before Getting a Tattoo” PDF or review the following list of contraindications:

Most permanent makeup services will follow a similar procedure. Clients should avoid:

Upon client arrival, your technician will review your Medical Questionnaire and discuss any questions you might have. An outline will be made for brow and lip services, and liner thickness for eyeliner. The outline will be traced and once the skin is open, numbing will be applied to lessen pain levels. After this first session, about 10 days of healing will follow. Skin typically peels during this time and color will fade about 1-3 shades. We’ll see you for your touch-up appointment in the next 6-8 weeks, after which touch-ups will only be necessary every 1-2 years.

Eyebrow Shading

You may have seen a couple different names for permanent brows. There are multiple styles that can be accomplished through the Ombre shading technique, which uses a buildup of pigment called Stipple shading. Powder brows have a bold shading throughout the bottom of the brow but lighten through the top and front. Next, we’ll review the different techniques for hairstrokes. Most people know hair strokes to be done through the Microblading technique, however, this method tends to leave increasing scar tissue with every touch-up due to the use of blade-like needles. Instead, we prefer to create hairlike strokes with the use of the same machine we use for Ombre or Powder brows, creating what we call Nano Brows. These hairstrokes can be placed throughout the brow or just in the front and can be combined with Ombre shading to create either a Soft Combo Brow or a Bold Combo Brow. [Insert chart]

Once you’ve discussed your desired style with your technician, you’ll start the brow mapping process. The area will be thoroughly cleansed and prepped to create an outline. We’ll start by measuring the natural brows and trying to create a shape that makes both brows appear as “identical” as possible. Most people have “sisters, not twins” so keeping that in mind we’ll still try to find symmetry & a thickness (or thinness) of your preference. [Insert brow mapping picture & video]

The last portion of our consultation will be color matching. In general, we may decide on a color that may appear a bit more ‘warm’ than we intend the final color to be. This is because a lot of warmth may be lost through the healing process, and we don’t want the brows to fade to a gray tone.

Aftercare for brows is pretty straightforward. You’ll want to wash at least 3 times the day of your appointment, with unscented antibacterial soap. However, you should keep the area completely dry over the next 10 days minus the use of either Aquaphor or A&D ointment. To keep the area dry in the shower, you can use a thin piece of cling wrap. Over these 10 days, you’ll notice the area dry up and the skin will start to peel. Try NOT to pick at or ‘help’ the peeling process. Avoid heat, steam, sunlight, and makeup for the entire week, and take note of any changes after healing.
